Wall Street’s main indexes ended modestly lower overnight in a choppy session as hawkish comments from the U.S. Federal Reserve officials and data showing the labour market remained tight led some investors to worry about more aggressive interest rate hikes. We were joined by Karl Siegling from Cadence Capital who gave us his take. In this interest rate rising environment Karl gave us context and walked us through a chart showing 200 years worth of interest rate movements. The energy sector is what’s interesting to him at the moment and he discussed the coal sector, especially Whitehaven Coal (WHC). According to Karl, commodities and energy stocks are cyclical so all you have to do is capture the cycle. The LNG market is a smidge more complicated than coal, but he’s been holding BHP (BHP) for a strong play. And he said it may be too late to get into lithium and other battery metals is where he’s looking. Tune in for all the details…
